Skin Camouflage Tattoo

I will not be offering this service, although I already offer permanent makeup and other forms of medical tattooing

I do not believe skin camouflage tattooing to be a good long term option.  Your skin will always change colour, and so will the pigment, in the sun or as it fades and changes over time.  Skin is also translucent, pigment isn’t.   Keeping on top of colour changes would take dedication and may end up with a colour problem worse than you started with. This is my personal opinion knowing how permanent makeup/tattooing pigments change over time

Skin Camouflage Makeup

To be able to offer a fully rounded clinic I will soon be adding skin camouflage makeup to my service, I will be training with Changing Faces during summer 2014.    For me it’s a natural progression, years ago I was a makeup consultant

Changing Faces Brighton & Hove East Sussex

I use Lycogel camouflage makeup on clients who’ve had scar or wrinkle reduction treatments on their faces.  Lycogel was originally developed to be used by doctors immediately after most cosmetic procedures to camouflage the signs of treatments such as laser and surgery.  The cream promotes a quick and comfortable recovery

I will shortly have an online shop selling the Lycogel range of concealer and camouflage creams, or you can visit my studio to test for the correct colour

Fresh Scars – RégimA Scar Repair helps to heal and mature scars

RegimA Skin Treatments
Scar repair cream, photos

Mature ScarsMy Dry Tattooing service breaks up the fibres of scar tissue, allowing the area to gently re-heal and after a little gentle sun or UV exposure, for most people normal pigmentation returns

It’s quite impressive how skin regenerates and reverts once woken up, and gentle tattooing (without any pigment) is the best and most precise way of making this happen.  Results are seen starting after one session, with three recommended

Tight, raised or loose scars or burns

These can also be helped by Dry Tattooing, as before, the gentle tattooing breaks up the scar fibres, allowing skin to re-heal.  I also offer Derma Roller and Meso Vytal treatments and sometimes a combines treatment plan is suggested to give the best results

Travelling to Brighton by Train & Car

Once you’ve decided you want to visit Skin Confidence for your scar or stretch mark reduction treatment, the journey to Brighton is pretty easy from most places around the country.  As an example travelling from Manchester by train is about 4 hours door to door, catching two trains.  I’ve done the Manchester journey several times for my own tattoos !

I travel via St Pancras as not only is this an easier route, but it’s usually cheaper too.  Most trains from the North come into London at Euston or Kings Cross, so for the journey to Brighton I set my online ticket purchase to ‘via St Pancras.  This route avoids London Underground and you get an easy walk between stations

There’s a map below showing the walk from Euston to St Pancras which takes about 10 minutes.   Kings Cross is next door to St Pancras.  From St Pancras you get a direct train to Brighton, then a 12 minute walk from Brighton Station to mine

  • RégimA Scar Repair supplied as aftercare
  • Effective numbing cream used
  • Honest advice given.  Initial consultation by phone

Lisa – 07530 978856 or 01273 775188

Photos watermarked Skin Confidence are of my treatments on my clients.  The only changes I make to photos are to remove any grey tone (often seen in indoor photos), remove any spots and watermark with my company names. There are no other manipulations to enhance these photos.   Company suppled photos i.e RégimA, are clearly branded

Graphic Image Warning

Please be advised, some of the following images are immediately after treatment. The area will be red and swollen as blood has been brought into the area, how much varies by person and area treated

Expected results for stretch marks

RegimA Scar RepairFresh Stretch Marks

For medium and wide stretch marks, the best results will be whilst they are still fresh.  I stock RégimA Scar Repair cream (buy online), it can be used during pregnancy to prevent stretch marks, and will mature fresh stretch marks, healing the area and making the marks less pink or red. As soon as the stretch marks are not pink I can dry tattoo them

I also offer RégimA Peel & Heal treatments to heal and reduce fresh (pink, red or purple) stretch marks

RegimA Peel & Heal 14

Mature Stretch Marks

I am able to dry tattoo stretch marks as soon as they are not pink

Skin Elasticity

Good skin elasticity is very important to how well stretch marks respond to treatment.  If skin lacks elasticity or is loose through pregnancy, gravity or age, like on breasts or the stomach, whilst the stretch marks will firm up, the rest of the skin will still be loose, meaning the marks less likely to blur away

If skin lacks elasticity a combined Derma Roller and Dry Tattooing treatment would be recommended for the best results.  Each stretch mark would be dry tattooed, and the whole area then derma rollered.  This combined treatment gives damaged and loose skin the intensity of collagen induction (skin needling) needed to respond

Fine, silvery white stretch marks

If your skin is quite elastic they are likely to blur away after 2 or 3 treatments. The colour naturally returns, the shine goes and then the stretch marks begin to blur into normal skin tissue.  If your skin lacks elasticity a combined treatment with Derma Roller would be recommended

Medium stretch marks

If the marks are white, shiny or coloured, you will see them changing to a more normal colour. Thin skin will start to thicken, and how much they then blur into normal skin is very individual. Thinner marks would disappear, with wider marks looking firmer and more skin coloured.  If skin lacks elasticity or the stretch marks are a result of pregnancy, a combined Derma Roller treatment is recommended

Wide stretch marks

If stretch marks are very wide you can expect the skin to thicken and combining tattooing and derma roller treatment you’d get the best skin tightening, tho the marks would still be visible as they are probably too wide/deep to disappear

Normal coloured stretch marks

If your stretch marks are already normal skin colour and not shiny, it’s harder for you to see the difference of skin thickening, until they blur into normal skin. It’s unpredictable how much this will happen for medium and wide stretch marks

Skin Colour

Dry Tattooing works for all skin colours and is very successful on darker skins, especially when helping to normalise dark or light coloured scars and stretch marks (see ‘Dry Tattooing V Laser & Carboxy’ below)

Clients with skin darker than light olive must purchase Laser Gel as an additional aftercare product.  15ml costs £19.95, 100ml £56.95.  This product helps prevent post treatment pigmentation and is a useful first aid product for burns and grazes

Dry Tattooing can be carried out all year round, and gentle sun exposure (including sun bed) helps boost results

Dry Tattooing V Laser & Carboxy Treatment

These stretch mark treatments all work on the principle of causing new collagen which will help thicken the stretched and possibly thin skin so as to help it blur into normal skin

Laser and Carboxy will firm and smooth, but there will be no return of melanin pigmentation to the area.  This is because new collagen is only formed in the deeper layers of skin.

Dry Tattooing causes new collagen from the surface to the deep layers,  so new melanin cells are also formed, meaning the return of natural pigmentation to the stretch marks.   Clients can easy (mistakenly) think their stretch marks have disappeared after only a few sessions because the pigment has is returning and the skin looks so much better.  The darker the natural colour of skin, the sooner this is visible.  I say mistakenly because new collagen takes longer to develop than new melanin

Before & After Stretch Mark Treatment

Stretch Mark Reduction (before)Before – Stretch mark reduction for fine silvery stretch marks.  Duplicate area on other side.  Total area size 3 hands.  £300 per session dry tattooing, plus £100 derma roller (one-off price).  £820 for a course of 3.  Each session about 2 hours

Stretch Mark Reduction (after)After – Stretch mark reduction for fine silvery stretch marks. Duplicate area on other side.  Total area size 3 hands.  £300 per session dry tattooing, plus £100 derma roller (one-off price).  £820 for a course of 3.  Each session about 2 hours

Pain factor, ticklish in places and bottom twitched in some areas.  No real pain experienced

Stretch Mark Dry Tattooing before & afterBefore and after fine silvery stretch mark treatment using Dry Tattooing and Derma Roller.  Results are after one visit, second treatment carried out

Normal pigmentation has almost completely returned to the treated areas. Dry tattooing uses no pigment, this happens naturally in most cases.

Immediately after doing the second treatment my client was surprised I’d still found stretch marks, in the mirror she could not see them.  With colour returning the marks had become less visible, tho were still there as they wouldn’t disappear in one session. Results are very individual

Number of sessions needed and how long in between sessions

Expect to need 3 sessions to give the best result.  I give a 20% discount for a pre-paid course of 3 sessions, or you can pay each session without the discount (prices below photos)

I’ve found the best results are achieved when the second session is taken 4 to 6 weeks after the first, and the last session taken 6 to 8 weeks later.  This is gentle and controlled stimulation, allowing healing and collagen growth before stimulating again.  Leaving too long between sessions allows the skin to fully settle before being stimulated again

After 3 sessions, allow the area to fully settle and develop for a period of 6 months before considering more treatments.  Results will be developing for up to a year !

Update: I’ve since spoken to this client and she’s been dieting, hoping to return for another visit when she’s lost weight.  I’ve advised treatments during weight loss, not after as I already can only help to tighten the skin

How MCA works on stretch marks

Dry tattooing causes new collagen growth to this thin and stretched tissue, helping to create a firmer skin. After treating, stretched skin goes through a process of development over the months, starting with the shine going, your normal skin colour returning, the skin firming and the stretched skin starting to blur into normal tissue

How much the stretched skin will blur into normal tissue is very individual. It depends how wide or deep the marks were, how many treatments are had, and how long before you call a result. Treated skin will be developing for months, 3 to 6 months and up to a year. Think how stretch marks settle and change over the months and it has to be a similar length of time

Price

I use my hand size to calculate prices (my hand’s not small!), and using this simple method you can work out your own price

Area size of 1 hand – £150
Each extra hand size – £75

Per session, 20% discount for pre-paid course of 3 (see chart below)

Derma Roller same session & area – £100

This is a one off charge, you don’t pay it again in future sessions

Treatments are booked 4 to 6 weeks apart. Three sessions are recommended, then leave the area to settle and develop

You will see the area will improve between visits, but expect to see the best results 3 months after a course of treatments

Multiple areas can be treated in one session. If you’ve stretch marks and/or loose skin in several areas, you may want to book a course to get best value.  As each area improves the hand areas can be used on another area (not another visit)

Expected results for scars

Stretch and loose scars - Dry tattooing causes new collagen growth to this thinned and stretched tissue, helping to create firmer skin

Mis-coloured scar tissuePurple and brown scars achieve a more natural tone, white scars the return of pigmentation.   No pigment is used, shades of brown and red scars are allowed to gently re-heal, and pigmentation cells usually return to normal action

Relaxation of tight scar tissue - Dry tattooing relaxes the fibres of tight scar tissue allowing a much larger range of movement. This treatment has been exceptionally successful on scars caused by burns and operations

Atrophic and Hypertropic scars are smoothed - Dry tattooing breaks up the scar tissue, so new collagen growth can smooth and repair the damaged skin

Active and Inactive Keloid Scars - Active keloid scars cannot be treated. Inactive keloid scars can be treated with discretion. Not all raised scars are keloid.  Active keloid scars grow, cause pain, itching and numbness. Inactive keloid scars do not grow and their colour is pinkish or normal skin colour

Skin Colour

Dry Tattooing works for all skin colours and is very successful on darker skins, especially when helping to normalise dark or light coloured scars.   Clients with skin darker than olive must purchase Laser Gel as an additional aftercare product.  15ml costs £19.95, 100ml £56.95.  This product helps prevent post treatment pigmentation

Dry Tattooing V Laser Treatment

Laser will firm a thin tissue scar or remove the surface layers of a raised scar, but there will be no return of melanin pigmentation to the area, so the mark will remain mis-coloured or light and shiny

Dry Tattooing causes and breaks down collagen from the surface to the deep layers,  so new melanin cells are also formed, meaning the return of natural pigmentation to the area

A pilot Randomized control trial of scar Repigmentation with UV light and dry Tattooing

Objective This study assessed the utility of focused scar injury with an ink-free tattooing technique combined with UV light exposure for the treatment of hypopigmented cervicofacial scars.

Study Design Pilot prospective, randomized, control trial.

Subjects Individuals with long-standing hypopigmented cervicofacial scars.

Methods Twenty individuals randomly underwent UVA light exposure with or without dry tattooing. Scars were evaluated pretreatment and at seven-months post-treatment. Outcome measures included observer and patient subjective assessment of the scar, and objective evaluation of the erythema and melanin content of the scar and the surrounding skin.

Results The tattoo group demonstrated statistically significant improvement in the subjective evaluation of their scars. Scar melanin content reached equivalence with the surrounding skin. Observer and patient subjective global ratings support the use of dry tattooing.

Conclusions Dry-tattooing followed by UV light exposure may provide a safe and effective means for the treatment of hypopigmented scars.

Before and after first visit – Breast cyst removal scar (client review below). Client reports scar was thin, sensitive and indented to the touch. Skin is now firmer, looking and feeling more normal. We have done a second treatment. Small visible scars £80 per session, this scar was about one inch long

Review Dry Tattooing for Scars:

“I was referred to Lisa by a close friend who has had an old
scar transformed with treatments from Lisa. In 2005, I had a cyst removed from my upper left breast, leaving me with a scar that has never faded and made me feel quite self conscious.
I had my first session with Lisa two weeks ago, and can already see a huge difference in the scar – it is firmer, less striated and is clearly improved (not stretched and fragile as before). Am confident this result will increase with further treatments.
Lisa is a highly skilled, lovely person. She takes her time explaining procedure with care and detail. The treatment was painless and I look forward to additional treatments and seeing excellent results!” Rachel, Brighton

Three treatments are recommended, taken 4 to 6 weeks apart, then leave the area to settle and develop over the coming months. Although positive changes are seen after one treatment, full results take several months to develop, just like the scar or stretch mark initially did

Effective numbing creams are used before and during treatments

White Scar RemovalBefore – White scar on lower leg.  Treatment area size 1 hand. £150 per session or £360 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported

White Scar RemovalImmediately after first session.  Treatment area size 1 hand. £150 per session or £360 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported

Acne Scar Reduction

Dry tattooing helps two-fold with acne scarring.  The tattoo machine can break up the scar tissue in each allowing it to re-heal smoother, and it wakes up the mis-pigmented scar tissue, allowing the colour to normalise.  Three sessions are recommended, first and second 4 to 6 weeks apart, then third session 8 weeks later.  Results are seen about three months after starting

More Dry Tattooing for surgery scars

Update one month later: Already a lot smoother and much of scar now pink.  Bookings next session after summer as finally enjoing wearing short sleeved tops !  Ideally should re-visit sooner, but gentle sun exposure is good to help naturally restore pigmentation after treatment
Effective numbing creams are used before and during treatment
Whilst the above photo does look alarming, it has to be remembered that scar tissue behaves very differently to normal tissue.  This level of redness was achieved by gentle stimulation as in places the scar was very thin.  On the other arm the scarring was thicker.  Tissue needs to grow and colour normalise, 6 weeks have been recommended before my client returns for her second and later third treatment.  Results will be seen around 3 months after starting treatment

Review of MCA for scars:

“I had micro needling for a very long and old operation scar on my abdomen. First things first: no, it didn’t hurt! In fact I kept laughing during the treatment because it tickled sometimes. I found micro needling to be a non traumatic experience with little discomfort and no downtime. Lisa is brilliant: she explained everything to me so I knew exactly what to expect, and she talked about what result I was hoping for, how, realistically, I could expect the results to be and told me clearly how the scar would develop after the treatments and what to do for aftercare. She showed me some pictures that helped me to visualise the process and the potential results. That was wonderful as I felt empowered to go ahead with treatment with all the info I needed.

Revisiting scars can be a bit emotional but Lisa’s calm and practical manner soon put me at my ease. I’ve been to Lisa for semi permanent make previously and have always found her to be friendly, professional and creatively gifted. I recommend her to other people because she really knows her stuff. Lots of salons offer this kind of treatment but I wanted the reassurance of knowing that I was going to a professional, full time practitioner with lots of experience who has her own portfolio of before, during and after pictures. I knew I was in safe hands. Thanks, Lisa! See you soon to tackle those bothersome stretch marks…” Emma, Brighton

Price

I use my hand size to calculate prices (my hand’s not small!), and using this simple method you can work out your own price

Area size of 1 hand – £150
Each extra hand size – £75

Per session, 20% discount for pre-paid course of 3 (see chart below)

Scar on face smaller than 1″ – £80

Per session aftercare extra.  Pre-paid course of 3 aftercare included

Nipple & Areola Tattooing

$
0
0

After breast reconstruction surgery, breast reduction or uplift, the pigmentation of the areola/nipple can be lost, or the nipple removed.  Using semi permanent pigments I can create a nipple and areola, or refine the shape and add colour to an existing nipple

A combination treatment with Dry Tattooing (MCA Micro Needling) may be used to reduce and smooth any scar tissue in the area

Consultation

If there is scar tissue in the area, or no existing nipple or areola, a separate free consultation would be advised.  It is difficult to implant pigment evenly in scar tissue, and a session or two of Dry Tattooing may be a good option to prepare the skin for pigment.  And if there is no nipple or areola, discussing the shape and placement in a separate appointment can be reassuring

If there is no scar tissue and existing nipple/areola, the consultation would normally be a part of the tattoo appointment.  Often clients like to send a photo and discuss over the phone before arriving for treatment

Lisa: 07530 978856 and 01273 775188

Appointments are not rushed, and you’ll be given all the information you need, so there’s no surprises.  During the consultation we go through your medical history and have an understanding of the treatments you’ve had, and any you’re planning to have

During the shape and design stage you’ll get to see various skin colours and we can decide the ones that will suit.  If there is an existing nipple/areola, the shape will be drawn on and agreed before starting any tattooing.

If there are no nipples or areola to work with, I leave you alone for a short while to experiment with size and positioning, before returning to start drawing the shape on your body

Treatment

You will have arrived pre-numbed,  the process is explained during your consultation, or over the phone if a separate consultation was not required

The tattooing process is quite simple, and surprisingly relaxing, with about 2 to 3 hours required for creating nipple/areola, less for partial colouring.  This is the booking length, not tattooing time

After Treatment

Immediately after the area will look darker and it will usually start to swell.  It’s not normally painful afterwards, feeling more hot like mild sunburn, but pain relief can be taken if needed.  The colour will soften and lighten over the next few days and full aftercare advice and products are given

The included top up appointment is booked 4 to 6 weeks later

Permanent V Semi Permanent Nipple/Areola Tattooing

Within hospitals a breast care nurse is often trained to carry out nipple/areola tattooing.  Finishing Touches, who I trained with to offer permanent makeup, would most likely have trained them.  The hospital would also use the Finishing Touches tattoo machine and pigments because they are licensed to be used within a hospital.  These are all semi permanent pigments, just like the semi permanent pigments used for permanent makeup, just in different colours

I first thought about nipple and areola tattooing a couple of years ago when I first trained to offer permanent makeup, I couldn’t understand why you’d want semi permanent nipples ?

I understand who you shouldn’t tattoo eyebrows using permanent tattoo pigments (like a tattooist would use), as brown pigment always exposed to the sun would change colour, generally a shade of pink or orange, and eyebrows change shape as we age, but a nipple stays the same !?

But after lots of thinking and asking, the same reasons apply here.  Pinks and browns still change and fade over time, and heaven forbid a nipple was tattooed permanently in place, and the lady got breast cancer again and her breast shape changed, again.  I know when a lady has a breast uplift or reduction, the lower part of the breast can drop again after a couple of years, yet the nipple will remain in the higher position.  If the pigment is semi permanent, it will fade away in a few years, or can be removed with a non-laser treatment

I offer a few types of non-laser, non-rejuvi tattoo removal.  Laser tattoo removal is generally not possible on the colours used in nipple and areola tattooing as they contain a lot of white and red

I have decided that after a few years of top ups with semi permanent pigment, I’d know how pigments fade and change, and the breast will have settled into a more lasting shape.  In the future I will offer my clients the option of a permanent tattooed nipple/areola, but in the early years after surgery, the tattoo does need to be semi permanent

If you’ve found my website before you start treatment…

If you’ve been told breast cancer treatment is likely to cause the loss of one or both nipples, please visit me for a pre-surgery consultation and record taking.  I offer nipple and areola tattooing, and can take a photo, shape and colour record of your breasts.  If in the future you decide to have nipple tattooing, we can complement your new breasts with the familiarity of your current ones.

I also specialise in Permanent Makeup, Beautiful Ink.  During your treatment, if you are likely to loose eyebrows I offer a free eyebrow drawing lesson, showing you how to easily draw natural looking eyebrows with pencil

I am able to tattoo eyebrows during chemotherapy with written medical consent, or 5 weeks after your last chemotherapy session

During Treatment

I offer the RégimA Scar Repair and Laser Gel creams which help alleviate radiotherapy burns, prices starting at £16.95

Dry Tattoo Training

1/6/14 – Working on my offering, check back for developments

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to offer your clients a scar improvement and stretch mark reduction service ?

Many dry tattooing bookings last an hour, most of the work is done when I’m not tattooing !

With an understanding of damaged skin, and the techniques used, dry tattooing would become second nature to someone used to tattooing.  But when dealing with scars, and people living with them, there’s a whole other level of understanding that you need to think about.  Freely giving honest advice, managing expectations of  possible or likely results, saying no to someone you feel is not emotionally or physically ready for the treatment

I will soon offer one-2-one training to those experienced in tattooing and have it as their full time occupation.  This is not a diploma course and is aimed specifically at tattooists who would otherwise not be able to train in this service.  When my course is formed I have training insurance ready to begin

Training requirements:

  • Licensed, registered and insured studio
  • Over 2 years tattooing experience (not include apprenticeship)
  • Comprehensive portfolio of fresh & healed work

My training will be a mixture of demonstration, practical and theory, and I will supply the models

FAQs

Is there a pre-peel consultation ?

This depends on your skin condition.  Generally you do not have RégimA products before your peel as you have the essential homecare products to use.  However, I do advise using homecare products for two weeks before a peel if you have very problematic skin

For example if you have live acne the skin can be very inflamed, red and sore, specifically chosen products aim to bring down the inflammation and soreness before commencing with a RégimA Peel & Heal, progressing on to Acne Attack if required.  Peel & Heal may well be enough to get live acne under control, and it’s always best to peel conservatively

How often should I have a peel ?

A series of peels may be necessary to achieve the best result for  particular problem.   It is better to start conservatively and each treatment the time or strength of peel may be increased according to client reaction and tolerance.  For pigmentation or acne weekly peels may be commenced, then monthly or 6 weekly peels as desired

How long is the peel on for ?

The first peel will be a 20% Peel & Heal for between 15 – 20 minutes, the next peel can be increased by 5 to 10 minutes, building up to 45 minutes.  Once this can be tolerated if necessary we can move up to the 40% peel or Acne Attack peel

What will the peel feel like ?

The potent acids in RégimA peels have a low pH (they are acidic), this is partly how they are able to penetrate the skin and work down to the living layer.  Being very acidic there will be a degree of stinging and itchiness, this is mainly during the first 5 minutes of application, afterwards it feels more itchy.  If skin is very dry, or in real need of exfoliation, more intense stinging can be experienced.  Massaging Laser Gel into the skin can help relieve these symptoms, so can using a hand held fan

What do I use after the peel ?

Immediately after the peel I will apply several post peel RégimA products, depending on your personal needs.  If there is visible peeling you must use Laser Gel until the peeling subsides.  Do not allow the skin to dry out and peel hectically.   Included in your treatment price you will have homecare products to heal and develop your skin for optimal results

What will I look like after the peel ?

Any redness varies from person to person and usually subsides within a few hours and the skin goes back to a normal colour.  If the skin is extremely dry and damaged you can possibly stay pink for a day or two, but this is rare.  It really only occurs when a client has visible peeling  after the first session, Laser Gel, Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair would help normalise this quickly.  There may be some superficial flaking over the next couple of days and the skin may feel ‘sand papery’ but this is easy to handle with the products mentioned before.    Only following a deeper peel will the skin remain red for a few days

Note: I’ve had several 20% RégimA Peel & Heal treatments, I normally go red after invasive beauty treatments.   With my first peel I went only slightly red with barely noticeable peeling, and now I don’t get any redness and no visible peeling, even tho I know I’ve peeled as my skin is so much softer and smoother

Will I peel for long ?

The unique RégimA peels can achieve instant smoothness without any visible peeling.  A certain amount of epidermis (outer dead layer) is removed when the peel is neutralised but you don’t have to have extended peeling of the skin for it to have worked.   Obviously if you need the peel to work on deep wrinkles or scarring, the peel needs to stay on for longer, you may need peels more often, or a stronger concentration, then you may have a certain amount of visible peeling, but this can be normalised by the Laser Gel, Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair in your home care products.  Also if you peel at the start of treatments, that does not mean you will continue to peel after every treatment

What’s special about the home care products ?

Hydroactive Cleansing Gel: Deep cleanses, tones naturally whilst clearning and tighening the pores

Quantum Elastin: Synthesized elastin * in a micromolecular form conbined with botanicals and proteins.  Firms and lifts the skin.  Beneficial to damaged and problem skins as well as scarred skins.  Helps re-elasticise and thicken the skin

B-Complex Daily Radiance: Normal/Oily/Combination/Problem Skins. Daytime moisturizer with natural oil controller and sun protection SPF 30. Helps tighten pores, protects and gives skin a natural healthy radiance

Daily Survival:  Normal/Dry/Dehydrated Skins. Deeply nourishing daytime moisturizer with sun protection SPF 30. Hydrates, protects and gives skin a glow

Ultra Matt: Non problematic skins. An infusion of plant extracts renowned for skin repair with sun protection SPF30

Optimal Essentials: All Skin Types, particularly beneficial for skins that tend to be oily or combination.  With sun protection SPF 15

RegimA Scar Repair Before and after

RegimA Scar Repair“Scar Repair is an incredibly versatile product. It can be used for new scars, accelerating the healing process in the critical initial inflammatory phase and it has been seen to help flatten and mature old scars that have remained lumpy, red and irritable. It is effective as a ‘preventative and treatment’ for stretch marks. It has also been seen clinically to have a calming, healing effect on acneform skins. The objective of RégimA’s scar treatment programme is to mature a scar as quickly as possible and thus achieve an optimal final result.

Adding to the power of this product is RégimA’s unique form of Elastin. Elastin is a natural protein present in skin. As we age, the body’s manufacturing of Elastin slows down, and drying, sagging and wrinkling of the skin develops, making scar healing much slower. RégimA’s form of Elastin is not that which is found in shampoos and conditioners, as those molecules are too large to penetrate to the deeper layers of skin (dermis) and would be ineffective as a scar treatment. RégimA’s Elastin is presented in a special micromolecular peptide form (DNA protector), ensuring Scar Repair’s immediate penetration to the dermis, promoting repair and firming of the skin. This Elastin is synthesized by painstaking means. We do not use natural Elastin as this is derived from animals, and we do not use any animal by-products within our skin treatments.

Whether for repair or prevention, one should in the morning and evening massage Scar Repair into stretch prone areas such as the abdomen, breasts, buttocks and thighs. Continue during pregnancy and dieting. Highly recommended during pregnancy

Using RégimA Scar Repair & Laser Gel

A combined treatment would be recommended for burns, including radiotherapy burns, and any open wound

RégimA Laser Gel can be used on open wounds and burns (after seeking medical advice).  I can vouch for how good the Laser Gel works as I’ve been using it on a nasty deep and open wound on my shin, result of a slip onto the bottom of a door.   I’ll be using scar repair as soon as it’s closed, so if you visit, ask to see my scar !

Scar Cream RegimA (2)

Radiation Therapy

Laser Gel would be applied immediately after each radiation therapy session (not during the treatment itself). Scar Repair is also highly recommended with Laser Gel over the top.  The high percentage of anti-inflammatory ingredients combined help to alleviate any radiation burn

RégimA Laser Gel

RégimA Laser Gel is used to prevent scabbing and post injury pigmentation.  It can also help with some forms of eczema and psoriasis, smoothing away the crusting.  Laser Gel can be used on open wounds and burns (after seeking medical advice)

RegimA Laser Gel Post Peel
New packaging, differs from photo

“RégimA Post Laser/Post Peel Gel was formulated several years ago for use by plastic surgeons following Carbon Dioxide laser therapy. It revolutionized post laser treatment, ensuring more rapid healing of the laser burn whilst preventing laser crusting and subsequently averting post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark pigment), a previously known potential side effect of laser, dermabrasion or deep chemical peels. RégimA Post Laser/Post Peel Gel soothes, calms, reduces redness and irritation, promotes more rapid healing due to the powerful anti-inflammatory action of the healing oils of the Amazon. It further provides deep moisturization, while protecting and accelerating the natural rejuvenation process of the skin.

EXTRA BENEFITS OF LASER GEL

RégimA Post Laser/Post Peel Gel has been found to have remarkable properties. It has also been used by plastic surgeons internationally following trauma injuries e.g. Dermabrasion, deep abrasions following road traffic accidents that result in extensive deep crusting and subsequent pigmentation. The Laser Gel quickly loosens the crusting whilst accelerating the healing process. It has also been seen to be helpful in certain cases for eczema and psoriasis. Burns – Following assessment of the degree of burn and initial treatment by a doctor to ensure they are not open to infection, Laser Gel may be used to help prevent crusting, and subsequent pigmentation and accelerate the healing process.

Post Laser/Post Peel Gel is recommended following procedures where peeling and irritation may occur. In recent years Post Laser/Post Peel Gel has also been used extremely successfully by therapists in conjunction with all laser and IPL systems, including hair removal. It is a perfect healing agent for laser, dermabrasion and deep peels. It has also been used successfully following micro-needling, tattooing, tattoo removal and permanent make-up procedures, helping to prevent crusting and loss of tattoo pigment.”

Preventing Unsightly Scars

Once a surgical wound has closed, the stitches removed and the consultant signed you off, that’s usually it.  You now have a fresh scar that still needs caring for to get the best cosmetic appearance, but we’re rarely taught how

I’d like to share how, it’s surprisingly simple, and costs very little

Fresh Scar Tissue

Once the stiches have been removed, fresh scar tissue is holding the wound together.  For areas of high movement i.e tummy and around the shoulder, or areas prone to gravity stretching i.e tummy and breast, the fresh scar tissue is working far harder that it should be.  One of two things will happen, the scar will form into a fibrous bump of tissue, or become a stretched scar, which can be loose or tight.  So it would make sense to help support the fresh scar tissue with micropore tape, thus holding the area together

Micropore Tape

Simply tape over the scar with micropore tape, easily found in chemists, 2.5cm x 10m costs about £4

  • The width of the tape you use should completely cover and support the scar, surrounding it by about 1cm.
  • The tape should be applied to a clean scar with no greasiness on the surrounding skin.  Apply the tape firmly.
  • The tape must be left on until it comes off naturally (5 to 7 days), and replaced.  Do not remove daily as this will cause irritation.
  • Continue taping until the scar matures, becoming pale and flat. This may take a couple of months.

This method must not be used on wounds

To speed up and boost results use a small amount of RégimA Scar Repair directly on top of the micropore tape.  Repeat several times a day for a slow release of the cream directly where it’s needed

Mature Scars & Stretch Marks

When stretch marks are no longer fresh pink, and scars older than 6 months (usually white), they are considered mature and need waking up before these creams will benefit.  Dry tattooing wakens the skin so it can re-heal, these products optimise results.  Scar Repair is included in my treatment price to use as aftercare.  Applies to full price treatments over £150

Dry Tattooing (MCA Micro Needling) – Precise skin stimulation, wakening and re-healing

by Lisa Henning

Original Article posted 13th June 2014 on The Consulting Room

The Consulting RoomDry tattooing (also known as MCA Micro Needling) is an exciting alternative treatment that works directly on damaged skin, relaxing and smoothing scars, also reducing stretch marks. Any micro needling treatment essentially brings new life into damaged skin, and using a digital tattoo machine is a very quick way and precise way of making this happen. No pigment is tattooed into the skin, however pigmentation begins to normalise as a result.

Dry tattooing is not a new service to the market, but it’s not widely heard of outside of hospitals where it’s better known as MCA Micro Needling. MCA Micro Needling is an advanced course available to those already specialising in cosmetic and medical tattooing. Clients generally hear about this treatment by referral from a doctor or consultant.

At my clinic, Skin Confidence in Brighton, I’ve decided to call this treatment dry tattooing. It’s a term more easily understood by the public whom I’m aiming my service at. Dry tattooing distinguishes the treatment from other micro needling, skin needling treatments such as the derma roller or Derma Pen.

Using the same principles of causing growth of healthy new collagen as a derma roller, dry tattooing works on the specific areas of affected skin only i.e. each stretch mark and only the scar. Areas that are not affected are not treated. The digital tattoo machine causes blood to come into the treated area, without removing the top layers of skin. Over the weeks and months new collagen is formed i.e. healthy new skin rather than poor quality scar tissue, stretched or creased skin. A 20-50% improvement can be seen in just one session, with a course of 3 recommended for best results

Dry tattooing can be used on all colours of skin, with only dark skins prone to over pigmentation and keloid scarring advised not to go ahead. Once approved for treatment, scarring, hypo or hyper pigmentation are unlikely risks, as no heat is used and the surface of the skin is not removed.

MCA Micro Needling began as a treatment to relax and reduce scar tissue, however it’s a valid alternative treatment to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, especially for darker skins where laser treatments would not be advised.

Stretch Marks before

Before – Stretch mark reduction for fine silvery stretch marks on skin area with good elasticity.  Duplicate area on other side, total area size 3 hands.

Stretch Marks after dry tattooing

After – These results are after one session and a small trial patch. A second treatment was carried out and my client was surprised I still found stretch marks, as she could not see them.  Normal pigmentation has almost completely returned to the treated areas. Dry tattooing uses no pigment, this happens naturally in most cases. The stretch marks are still there and will develop and blur over the coming months. Results are very individual

Stretch Marks before treatment

Before – Fine silvery stretch marks on inner thigh, skin area is lacking elasticity.

Stretch Marks after MCA Micro needling

After – 3 sessions and 3 months of healing.  Stretch marks have tightened and the thin skin is filling up.  Area will still be developing over the coming months and any further sessions would use a Derma Roller to tighten as we did not do a combined treatment.

Expected results for stretch marks

If skin lacks elasticity or is loose, like on the bust or tummy, whilst dry tattooing will firm any stretch marks, the rest of the skin will still look loose, and the stretch marks less likely to blur away.  A combined Derma Roller/Dry Tattooing treatment would be suggested to tighten any loose skin, this can be carried out in the same session.

If skin has good elasticity, fine, silvery white stretch marks are likely to disappear after 2 or 3 treatments. Colour begins to naturally return, the shine of thin skin disappears and as the stretch marks thicken and tighten and blur into normal skin.

Medium and wide stretch marks are more difficult to treat and a client’s expectations needs to be well managed.  If skin being tighter, and the marks looking and feeling firmer can be accepted as a result, then all is well as any result more than this would be very individual and medium to wide stretch marks disappearing is unlikely.  Medium to wide stretch marks need to be treated while they are fresh, still very pink or red, to get any result and this would be with specific creams rather than any needling.

Finally, if stretch marks are already normal skin colour and not shiny or striated, it’s harder to see any difference of skin thickening, until they blur into normal skin. It’s unpredictable how much this will happen for medium and wide stretch marks

Natural re-pigmentation of scars and stretch marks

After dry tattooing, with new life brought into damaged tissue, natural pigmentation starts to return.  This can be helped by gentle sun exposure.  This means white and shiny scars and stretch marks blend away, and shades of pink and brown scars begin to normalise, often turning white before normalising.

A pilot Randomized control trial of scar Re-pigmentation with UV light and dry Tattooing -

Objective: This study assessed the utility of focused scar injury with an ink-free tattooing technique combined with UV light exposure for the treatment of hypo-pigmented cervico facial scars.

Conclusions: Dry-tattooing followed by UV light exposure may provide a safe and effective means for the treatment of hypo-pigmented scars.

Face lift scar

Before – Face-lift scar. Treatment area size 1 hand

Face lift scar after MCA Micro Needling

After – Result after one visit.  Area in front of ear almost returned to normal, area behind ear is less stretched.

Self harm scarring on arm before

Before – Treatment area size 1 hand.  During the treatment my client found this area a bit twitchy, but not really painful. She reported her arm was a little painful the next day, and was very itchy.  Itchy is good, new life into the area.

Self harm scarring after dry tattooing

After – Results after one session.  Scars look whiter as they are now firmer and smoother. Gentle sun exposure will help the new tissue to naturally re-pigment over the coming months and the scar will blur into the surrounding skin. Second treatment was carried out

Surgical scar on abdomen

Before – Operation scar, scar is pink and tissue irregular

Surgical scar after dry tattooing

After – Result after one session. Scar is now totally smooth and redness has gone. Scar looks whiter as it is now firmer, gentle sun exposure over the coming months will return new tissue to normal colour. Second treatment was carried out

Expected results for scars

Loose scars respond just like stretch marks, dry tattooing causes new collagen growth to the thin and stretched tissue, helping to create firmer skin. As new tissue grows in response to dry tattooing, miscoloured scar tissue achieve a more natural tone, and white scars the return of pigmentation. No pigment is used, this is the bodies natural reaction to scar tissue being needled, and dry tattooing being the most precise and intense form of it.

Dry tattooing also relaxes the fibres of tight scar tissue, with restricted scars or burns softening, allowing a much larger range of movement. Atrophic and Hypertropic scars are smoothed, with pitted acne scars being treated individually. The finest needles can be used, chosen depending on the scar to be treated.  Active keloid scars cannot be treated. Inactive keloid scars can be treated with discretion, and not all raised scars are keloid. Active keloid scars grow, cause pain, itching and numbness. Inactive keloid scars do not grow and their colour is pinkish or normal skin colour

Scar Reduction – Managing Client Expectations

There isn’t the same emotional attachment to stretch marks as there is to a scar one thinks unsightly.  It takes some doing to mentally revisit a scar and hope to improve it, especially if it was a traumatic experience.  This is why on my website I have chosen to show the immediately after treatment photos, so clients know exactly what to expect.  I believe bodies have pain memories, and I see my clients, just before I start treatment, suddenly remembering that it hurt to create, surely it’ll hurt to treat… forgetting that they’ve had numbing cream on the area for at least 30 minutes.

How much a scar improves is very individual, and results can’t be promised, but we’re giving the body a chance to re-heal in a more controlled manner, rather than the rush of scar tissue that formed when the wound was healing.  The emotion my clients generally feel is excitement, that they’re doing something that makes sense.  Scar tissue is stuck; we’re gently and precisely waking it up so it can heal again

Results don’t happen overnight, you’ll see I add dates to my photos, and one of the reasons I’ll be adding more and more photos to my website is so viewers can see there are no standardised before and after photos. There is nothing to judge your result against, only seeing each person’s scar improving. I recommend 3 dry tattooing treatments, and then leave the area to settle and develop for about 4 months before considering having any more. Some clients book these treatments regularly; others wait to see a development before returning. I’m of the view the 3 sessions of regular stimulation will work best, as ultimately we want to stimulate the skin so it can re-heal.

Consulting Room: “Here at The Consulting Room™ we have been providing information and advice that you can trust on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic and beauty treatments for over a decade. Alongside this we offer a service to help you find a clinic in the UK or Ireland providing such treatments.”

FAQs

Number of sessions needed and how long in between ?

Expect to need 3 sessions to give the best longterm result.  I give a 20% discount for a pre-paid course of 3 sessions, or you can pay each session without the discount

After 3 sessions, allow the area to fully settle and develop.  Allow at least 6 months before considering another or any other wrinkle treatments

Can I just do micro needling without any aftercare ?

You can, but the results won’t develop so well or last as long.  One of the reasons our faces develop lines and wrinkles is because the skin has, thinned, weathered, aged or lacked moisture.  To just cause new collagen in the lines and wrinkles will not prevent them forming again.  You need to look after the surrounding skin so it does not so easily form wrinkles, and the RégimA home care products are all about feeding, refining and thickening our skin

Skin Camouflage Makeup Consultations

To be able to offer a fully rounded clinic I will soon be adding skin camouflage makeup to my service, I will be training with The British Association of Skin Camouflage and Charles Fox (Dermacolor).    For me it’s a natural progression for my service,  and many moons ago I was a makeup consultant

I will have a wide range of colour samples (300+) and types of camouflage makeup from the most well known brands.   During the consultation we will colour match the areas you wish, and I’ll show you how to put on and remove the products.  They are quite different in feel and colour density to normal makeup.  On the body the camouflage can last several days before rubbing off !

I will stock some brands and colours (Lycogel mainly), however once you know your colours you can purchase directly at the links below

I offer two peels for active acne, the normal RégimA Peel & Heal, and RégimA Acne Attack.  There is no right or wrong with either, the peel is chosen according to how your skin responds

RegimA Skin Treatments

Peel & Heal - Lactic acid & malic acid

Acne Attack- Salicylic acid & lactic acid

1-Peel & Heal
Client photos: Treatment began 23rd October 2014, after photo taken 7 weeks later on 10th December 2014.  Treatment continuing, see more photos below

Immediately after: Several products are applied to boost, heal and continue soothing the skin.  These products are usually available to purchase, and I will explain why each was chosen

Aftercare: I will recommended products for home use (details and prices below), and each time you visit we’ll chat about what you’re enjoying using, and seeing results with.  This enables correct product purchases

RegimA Peel & Heal

Before & After (client photos)

We used Peel & Heal at 20% for all peels.  Peels were carried out weekly, with aftercare products chosen for acne and hormonal acne.  As the acne was shifting we did not to use the Acne Attack peel

I must thank my client for her commitment to the treatment, using the RégimA aftercare products, and of course for allowing me to use her treatment photos.  I love clients who pay it forward !

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (2)Before Peel & Heal – Client had started pre-peel homecare

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (3)Before Peel & Heal – Client had started pre-peel homecare

For the first month of treatment your skin will continue to breakout, and in my clients case we had the addition of hormonal acne at certain times of the month

We catch up with the photos after one month of treatments (we missed a week due to client holidays).  Her skin is showing signs of break out and previous breakouts, my client says none of these breakouts were any worse than normal

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (4)After 3 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 4th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (5)After 3 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 4th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (6)After 4 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 5th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (7)After 4 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 5th)

I mentioned hormonal acne, my client in the photos below was at the stage in her cycle where she’d normally have additional acne around her chin.  With the prescribed aftercare only one spot developed !

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (8)After 5 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 6th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (9)After 5 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 6th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (1)After 6 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 7th)

RegimA Peel & Heal for Acne (10)After 6 Peel & Heal Treatments (about to do 7th)

You can clearly see the lack of active acne.  It has to be said that my clients commitment to using the prescribed aftercare is a major factor in this result.  Hormonal acne will still need to be monitored monthly, and continued use of the aftercare products should prevent major breakouts.   After this course is completed, further peels can be at my clients discretion, however continuing with the aftercare products will give the easiest maintenance as we know they are working and not causing any breakouts

Pre-peel homecare isn’t always necessary, generally more suitable for those with very sensitive skin or dry skin.  Acne form skin will feel soothed after a peel, and less red than when you came in !

However you can book a consultation to discuss your treatment plan, and begin using the products before your course of peels

What does the peel feel like ?

It tingles and feels a bit itchy.  I sit with you during your peel and fan you till your face feels comfortable.  Skin that already feels uncomfortable with acne,  is very dry or congested, would benefit from pre-peel homecare to prepare the skin

The first peel stays on for up to 20 minutes, subsequent peels for longer, building up to an hour.  As the skin improves it gets used to the peels, the tingly and itchy initial part of the peel is barely there

Skin becomes more refined and fed during these peels, not thinner and more fragile as you might expect.

Nipple & Areola Tattooing

$

Free services

  • Scar prevention methods for fresh scars
  • Consultation & treatment plan for mature scars
  • Nipple/Areola record taking prior to surgery
  • Eyebrow drawing lesson during chemotherapy
